Editorial independence

Our writers decide what we publish. Advertisers, sponsors and partners have no say over which stories appear, what contributors say or how stories are edited.

Fact checking

We ask contributors to talk us through their figures and, where practical, to confirm them. We check general statements about tax, pensions and financial products against official sources such as GOV.UK, HMRC and MoneyHelper at the time of publication. Rules change, so each story shows its publication and last updated dates.

Privacy of contributors

We show a contributor's first name (or a chosen name), exact age, nearest town or city, occupation, income, accommodation and relationship status. We never publish full addresses, postcodes, precise locations or employer names.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and update the “last updated” date. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the story. To report an error, use our contact page.

Advertising separation

Advertising on this site is clearly labelled “Advertisement”, styled differently from editorial content and only shown if you have agreed to advertising cookies. We never ask readers to click on adverts. Advertising does not influence editorial decisions.

Sponsored content disclosure

We do not currently publish sponsored content. If we ever do, it will be clearly labelled as sponsored at the top of the page, and the sponsor will be named.

Affiliate links

We do not currently use affiliate links. If that changes, links that earn us a commission will be disclosed next to the link.
